Operation Food Search distributes more than 35 million dollars worth of food and necessities to 330 community partners in 31 Missouri and Illinois counties and in the city of St. Louis. When they outgrew their previous facility they asked M+H to help them design a bigger and more efficient space. The new facility, which tripled its current distribution and program capacity, includes a community demonstration and prep kitchen to expand nutrition education classes; a volunteer center with increased accommodations for individuals, corporations and organizations wanting to make a tangible difference, and; flexible, multi-purpose spaces to convene Operation Food Search member agencies and stakeholders for the purpose of creating long-term, innovative solutions to end childhood hunger.
This project consisted of a renovation to an existing single story warehouse and attached office facility consisting of approximately 39,975 SF and included in that SF is approximately 6,147 SF of existing single story office. The entire building is approximately 47,192 SF as it contains an existing warehouse space that will be Operation Food Search’s future expansion. The existing construction comprises concrete precast tee panels with steel frame and steel deck. The reconfigured space will provide areas for food distribution, volunteer sorting, packing and administration.
