After the completion of the design and construction of Operation Food Search’s new headquarters the M+H team volunteered an afternoon of time sorting various food items. (You can read more about our volunteer experience in this previous blog post.) Monday night members of the M+H design team had the privilege of attending Operation Food Search’s official grand opening. Rene Knott was an inspirational Master of Ceremonies and really took the event to the next level. The evening started with some great music and continued with a tour of the new facility, an amazing dinner, and of course some fundraising.
During our time helping Operation Food Search plan and design their new facility we realized how essential they are to our community and the thousands of children that go to bed hungry every night. However, after this event we realized the huge impact Operation Food Search has on our local community.
Did you know that Operation Food Search feeds over 190,000 people each month through food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, senior centers and schools? Did you know they also provide backpacks filled with food to over 8,138 children in 58 school districts each weekend? Did you know they also offer a Cooking Matters Program that teaches cooking skills, meal planning, and food budgeting for low-income kids, teens, and adults? In 2015 alone they had over 4,672 volunteers totaling over 16,000 volunteer hours.
This event also kicked off the public phase of their “Campaign to End Childhood Hunger in the St. Louis Region” and they are already within $600,000 of meeting their $7,000,000 goal. If you would like to donate please visit their website, http://www.operationfoodsearch.org/
M+H is honored to be a part of the design team for such an influential organization. We look forward to seeing the difference they will make in our local community for years to come.
