Berkeley Electric Cooperative (JI)

John's Island, SC

The Challenge

Berkeley Electric needed to upgrade their outdated, and outgrown, facilities at their Johns Island, South Carolina location to better serve their members.

The Solution

Due to the proximity to the coast, all of the buildings were designed to withstand CAT IV Hurricane winds up to 156 mph and large missile impacts utilizing tilt-up concrete construction. In order to meet existing zoning requirements, Low-Country architectural design was a requirement. We designed a new facility on Johns Island with room for future growth and was sensitive to the surrounding residential areas. The entire site has at least a 50 foot landscape buffer to help the facility blend in with the surrounding areas.
