Recognizing Excellence: Tilt-Up Achievement Award
We are thrilled to announce that M+H has been recognized with the honor of a Tilt-Up Achievement Award from the Tilt-Up Concrete Association for our work on a speculative warehouse in Elmwood Park, New Jersey.
This project was a significant endeavor, as we took on the challenge of rebuilding after the original structure was destroyed by fire in 2019. Winning this award is a testament to our team’s dedication to innovation and tilt-up construction.
The new building integrates historic forms and details inspired by the former Marcal Paper Company structure. Together with the developer, M+H recognized the significance of the previous building’s place in the community. While thin brick on tilt-up panels is uncommon in warehouse construction, our design team found it essential for mirroring the previous structure and breathing new life into the New Jersey borough.
The previous building was topped with a monumental, illuminated sign, serving as a local landmark and signaling entry into the borough. Since the fire, zoning regulations now prohibit rooftop signage, prompting our design team to adapt. Lantern-like features at the entrance and corners serve as modern beacons, echoing the iconic presence of the Marcal sign.

Although the design pays homage to its history, the building functions as a state-of-the-art warehouse facility. It accommodates 32 dock positions, two drive-in doors, a 60-foot speed bay, 50’x54’ typical structural bays, and an interior height of 40 feet.
