Lucent Technologies’ new Caribbean and Latin American Headquarters sits on a highly visible site along I-75 in the Broward County community of Miramar, Florida. Developed by The Rockefeller Group, this 240,000 square foot, four-story building blends high tech architectural and engineering design with a respect for and acknowledgement of the Mediterranean style dictated by the local ordinance. Built to the specifications of Lucent Technologies, the building accommodates their corporate standards, while maintaining the flexibility required to be a future multi-tenant facility if required.
A combination of green reflective glass and concrete tilt-up wall panels comprise the building skin, with an articulation of the building façade achieved by layering concrete panels and strong cornice and column elements, balconies and entry canopies animating the building with shadows and light. Patios, walking trails and an amphitheater surround the building with “people places” that combine with the bold architecture to yield a strong, corporate image that maximizes its exposure to the Interstate while maintaining a pedestrian scale and inviting working environment.
Our client’s (Lucent Technologies) objective for a high tech image had to be merged with Miramar’s stipulation for Mediterranean design elements, and then incorporated into a building that met Florida’s hurricane design requirements. M+H Architects did great work to deliver a building that met all of these goals.
