The Francis Howell School District had 22 schools providing early childhood through high school educational services. Some schools had multiple buildings. In response to the American Disabilities Act (ADA), the District engaged M+H Architects to survey and report on the accessibility related deficiencies at 13 schools, in order to establish a baseline strategy for compliance with the ADA. Utilizing Federal Register Guidelines, M+H developed questionnaires that guided the evaluations in a consistent and thorough manner, allowing all facilities to be compared equally. Deficiencies were noted and prioritized according to recommended compliance strategies to show a “good faith effort” to the removal of architectural and communication barriers.
