Woodruff Electric Cooperative held their ribbon cutting/grand opening for their new headquarters on December 11, 2014. The new offices and facilities are located in Forrest City, AR which is between Memphis and Little Rock. Cooperative staff members were on hand to provide tours of the facility.
Woodruff’s previous building was built in 1950 and after multiple expansions they finally ran out of room. In order to safeguard their employees and equipment they decided to build a new headquarters. This new facility, which sits on a 40 acre site, symbolizes the next chapter in their story and their long term dedication to providing quality service to their members. Only 20 acres of the site was developed which leaves plenty of room for future expansion.
M+H had the privilege of serving as an extension of Woodruff’s staff throughout the design and construction process. The new state-of-the-art facility includes an office building with a community room that seats 175 comfortably, a warehouse, covered vehicle storage, and a vehicle maintenance building.
The project is seeking LEED certification as it incorporates many concepts of sustainable design, including use of ground-source geothermal HVAC system, radiant slab heating and LED lighting on both the interior and exterior. It also encourages the use of low emitting vehicles by providing car charging stations near the office entrance. This energy efficiency aids in the efficiency of the services they provide to their members.
Community has always been important to Woodruff Electric Cooperative which is why they insisted on using as much local and regional building materials/vendors as possible. Woodruff has served the community for many generations and with this new facility they will continue this service for many more years to come. Congratulations Woodruff Electric Cooperative!
