World Wide Technology (WWT) and Lodging Hospitality Management (LHM) announced yesterday a $95 Million joint development effort to create a revitalized Westport Plaza. Once complete, the revitalized Westport Plaza will be the new home for World Wide Technology’s global headquarters and will also include a significant upgrade to Westport Plaza.
WWT, one of the largest privately held firms in the country and a four-time recipient of Fortune Magazine’s 100 Best Places to Work, selected Westport Plaza following an exhaustive, multi-market search for a new headquarters site. The new 210,000 square-foot building will open in mid-2017 and will accommodate up to 1,000 employees. WWT’s existing campus in Maryland Heights will continue to operate as a technology and innovation park housing the company’s Advanced Technology Center, IT and other operations. Both locations will support the continued growth of WWT with annual additions of approximately 100 new employees across the St. Louis Metro area.
M+H Architects designed the new WWT headquarters and it will be built by a joint venture between TW Constructors and Clayco, all located in St. Louis. Once complete, the building will be a state-of-the-art headquarters’ for WWT and will become an integral part of the revitalized Westport Plaza. “This a landmark project for us,” said Larry Mitchell, Principal of M+H Architects. “This is the first project we utilized our virtual reality technology to walk WWT through the space. This allowed them to actually see our design and make decisions based on being in the space; not just from looking at rendering. It’s been a huge success.”
To support the new WWT building, WWT and LHM also announce plans for a new 763-car public parking garage, a connection from the existing WWT Campus to Westport Plaza and major outdoor improvements to the plaza. In addition, LHM, one of the largest owners of real estate with over 1 million square feet of office and retail space and one of the largest local employers, will begin extensive capital and tenant improvements to the area designed to enhance the Class A status of the development and improve the overall experience for people who work or visit Westport Plaza.
“We envision our headquarters to serve as a collaborative and innovative space for our company, our employees as well as our customers and partners who visit us regularly from all over the country and around the world,” said Jim Kavanaugh, CEO and co-founder of World Wide Technology, Inc. “After reviewing our many options it became clear that Westport was the ideal location for our new building given the location and surrounding amenities. We’re excited to be partnered with LHM on this project.”
